¢Ć FDI Lopsided in Favor of Service Sector

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy (MOCIE) said Monday that foreign investment in 2000 amounted to US$15.69 billion, of which 55% reportedly went to the service industry. The MOCIE further revealed that out of the 4140 cases of foreign investment last year, 80% were in the service industry, while only 20% were in the manufacturing sector.

The MOCIE report, titled ”°Foreign Investments in 2000,”± showed that the service industry attracted a total of US$8.57 billion last year whereas the manufacturing sector brought in only US$7.12 billion. The report was submitted to representative Mang hyung-kyu of the Grand National Party Monday.
