Report of spoofed e-mails(phishing scams) sent out to customers is continuing to increase. While KEB online banking is very safe, as a general rule you should be careful about giving out your personal financial information over the Internet. The Korea Exchange Bank has compiled a list of recommendations below that you can use to avoid becoming a victim of these scams.
For collection and use of personal information
The Bank uses customers' personal information for the following reasons or purposes only
The Bank needs customers' personal information to meet the requirement to use own name and for safe financial transaction. Your personal information is used by the Bank only for the purpose of identification, sound financial transaction and provision of financial information.
In the case of a customer registered with the Bank's homepage as a member to use the Internet contents, the Bank may require his/her personal information only to provide financial information or consultation by e-mail and etc.
Period of retaining and using personal information
For the purpose of providing financial information, the Bank will retain and use your personal information until the Bank's service is stops.
Providing personal information to a third party
The Bank is required to obtain your consent when it uses your personal information or provides it to a third party as per the Law on Use of the Information & Telecommunication Network, Article 17 (Use of Personal Information and Restrictions). The Bank makes it a rule not to provide your information to a third party without your consent unless otherwise provided by the law.
Technical and Administrative Measures for Protection of Personal Information
At the Bank, your personal information is protected by means of secret access code. Your secret access code is only known to you. Confirmation of, or a change in, your personal information, is also done only by yourself. Your secret access code should be kept to yourself under any circumstances.
By using an intrusion detection system, the Bank takes all possible measures to block an attempt for intrusion into its computer network by way of hacking etc. for round-the-clock protection of customers' personal information. The Bank also reads itself against possible damages to the members' personal information by back-up system and data.
The Bank confines the number of personnel handling customers' personal information to a minimum for its maximum protection and provides education to the relevant personnel from time to time for a reminder.
In all transactions of e-banking, the contents of transactions are codified before transmission. You may rest assured about the safety and security of your account, as no one else can get access to your account. The Bank is using a 128 bit codified key.
Correction and Deletion of Personal Information
The Bank always tries to keep its personal information on customers updated.
You can, at any time, check, correct or delete your own personal information registered with the Bank, using your secret access code.
Protection of Children's Privacy
In the case of children of less than 14 years of age, the Bank's collection of personal information is to the cases in which rights (for example, offering favorable exchange rates) are given, and care is taken not to provide any harmful information other than financial information.
Operation of the Cookie
The Bank's homepage is operating the "Cookie." Information collected by the Bank is used to provide efficient financial information to customers.
What is the Cookie?
: The Cookie here is a bit of information transmitted by a website user to the computer's browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer) to keep the basic input information on the user site. When a user is connected with the website, the service provider's computer can read the contents of the Cookie in the user's browser and provide services by finding the user's additional information in its own computer without additional input of ID etc concerning the connection.
: The Cookie identifies the user's computer, but not the user individually. Also, the user may have a right of choice concerning the Cookie. That is, he/she may download all the Cookies, send a notice when the Cookie is installed or rejects all the Cookies by adjusting the options of Web browser. Please note that you may not be entitled to receive services that require installation of the Cookie if you reject the Cookie.
Other Things to Know for Protection of Personal Information
Please always keep in mind that the information you provided on the on-line bulletin board, e-mail or chatting can be collected and used by others. You may find yourself receiving messages you do not want in such a case, for example.
You are responsible for keeping your ID or secret access code secret and confidential. Care should be taken when you are connected on-line, accordingly.
Care should be taken about your user ID, secret code for certificate, secret code for transfer and safety card when connecting with e-banking. Do not use your secret access code when on-line as your personal information is open on-line.
The Bank will not be responsible for an accident that happens by your negligence in taking care of your personal information such as leakage of secret access code.
